Reluctantly, we said Good-Bye to our great hotel in Jacksonville Beach. The beds were soooo comfy!!
But the weather really sucked, it rained very hard and was sooo windy. And we never met anyone from Shinedown, so we were not too sad to start off to new adventures and a new State.
So we took off at 7 am and headed West. We enjoyed a "Bean Special" for breakfast and navigated through rushhour traffic.
Julia made her driving debut once we hit Interstate 10. She did really good! Now she's a pro at handling the automatic transmission. And the weird traffic lights around here...
Thanks to the endless supply of Mountain Dew, we had to take several breaks...
Question for our American friends: is there a reason why you don't like doors that close all the way or actually go from floor to ceiling? Do you like to hear and almost see everything people do in their stalls?
Have I ever mentioned that I am addicted to my iPhone?
And we really love our car by now!
We discussed one of my fave topics, too. Time zones! There actually was a sign saying "Entering Central Time". But what if you don't see the sign? Or what if you are in the woods and there is no sign? How do you know it's supposed to be an hour later? Or if you live on one side of the sign and go to school on the other side of it? I am sooo confused by this!
Then when we fiiiinallyyyyy reached Alabama.
we were totally relaxed and in true roadtrip mood.
The first thing that we noticed when we reached Alabama was that there is wayyyy more roadkill than in Florida. Weird, huh? There are also a LOT of funeral homes around here. Is that cause it is so boring around here that people die? ;-)
Seriously, there is NOTHING here. The outlet mall was totally disappointing. The food court was tiny and the food didn`t look too yummy. And it was so miserably hot, that we had to go inside and have a late lunch. At Long John Silver's... where we met people who totally loved us because we are German. How nice!:-)
We then decided to take off towards Mobile
and checked into our Motel. Which is right next to Hooters and if it weren't for the "No smoking please" sign, I'd never guess it was a nonsmoker room... yuck!
In order to enjoy some of the good weather and see the Gulf, we drove down to Dauphin Island. Where we drove over the most awesome bridge, with a huuuge bump, like a rollercoaster.
The water was quite cold and unfortunately, it got dark really fast and we couldn't find anything good to eat, so we decided to make use of the microwave in our room...and tomorrow we will drive to New Orleans. More Beaches on our way!! Good night!
